[Bay Haven] April Update

Dear friends,

It's been an interesting few months it's been as we prepare to open Bay Haven to the public. The space is looking amazing, we've learned a lot, and our Founding Members have been instrumental in shaping the space and helping us figure out how to best serve our community.

We will schedule our grand opening and first class sessions soon. In the meantime, read on for:

  • Gauging interest in teen summer camps at the studio
  • Information on firing services
  • Info on small group get-togethers and team-building

For those of you in Alameda: enjoy spring break! I hope the weather cooperates.

Stay centered, folks.

Janet

IT'S GIVING CLAY-CATION

Teen summer camps

I remember when my daughter aged out of ARPD's summer camps. We were at a loss for structure once school let out.

There's nothing wrong with taking a break, but sometimes it's helpful to have something creative to do. To that end, Bay Haven is exploring interest in week-long summer camps for ages 13-17.

If your young person might be interested, please share a little more information below.

GET YOUR KILN ON

Firing services available

Making stuff on your own and need to fire your work? We got you!

We have two electric kilns. We bisque to cone 04-06 and glaze fire to cone 5-6. Timing may take up to two weeks, but will likely be faster.

Read on to learn more about schedules and cost.

Team building and friends' night out

Get dirty* with your friends or coworkers!

*in a work-appropriate way, of course

Pottery can be a fun way to bond with your friends or spend time with colleagues outside of the (physical or virtual) workplace.

I'm excited to offer small group get-togethers for up to 8 people, focused on either hand-building or wheel-throwing. All materials and firing are included.

Grand opening coming soon — watch this space for announcements!

Dear friends, Last week, we welcomed founding members into the studio to choose their shelves, pick up their first bags of clay, and start making art in the space. We're relying on this small cohort to play-test our space and give us lots of feedback as we continue to prep for our official opening. We're still a ways away from opening to the public, but thanks to this crew we're starting to get a good sense of what's working, what's not, and what we're missing. Photos from the last week Not...

Hi folks. What a month. I've been at the studio seven days a week most weeks, and our handypeople have helped us make so much progress. We've gotten our large kiln moved over, and have assembled our wheels. Most of our private studios have occupants now, and we're starting to build a wonderful artist community. We'll be opening so soon. I can't wait to invite you into the space to make art together, as a community. More updates below. Space updates We have another bathroomThanks to our...

Hello friends! We've had a bunch of contractors at the studio this week, and we're just about ready for our next work party. I'm thankful that so many of you are excited to help out! Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 1, 11am – 3pm. We'll be doing a handful of miscellaneous jobs and maybe starting to put our wheels and stools together. So exciting! Please RSVP, even if you're a "maybe." It helps us plan and coordinate. Hope to see you there! Janet & Chip The world is hard. Let's make...
