[Bay Haven] More progress!

Hi folks! Progress on our new space continues. The opening feels both very soon and very far away, but we're getting there.

Read on for:

  • Having your own private art space at Bay Haven
  • A must-read about making art
  • Space updates, and
  • Thank-yous.

Also! Chip got us a kickwheel. I'm excited to go old-school and throw on it. Who's with me?

Stay centered, friends.

STUDIOS AVAILABLE FOR SUBLEASE

Have you ever wanted your own private art space?

Part of our business plan is building a community of creative people who want their own space —
a room of one's own, if you will.

We have six private studios available. They range from 110–220 sq. feet and come with thoughtful amenities. We're offering them to our community first.

Read this! Art could save your life.

As I was transitioning out of the tech industry, I worked with a leadership coach to help figure out what was next. He asked me: "When things get hard, what will you tell yourself to keep going?"

I responded:
"I believe art heals people."

Turns out it's not just a belief, it's proven to be true. Thanks to Karen G. for passing along this article from the Guardian.

Progress update

We have a sink and stools! And last night, my excellent husband Nat brought Lizette and Gene over to the studio where they started to build some tables.

Every little step gets us closer to opening. Thanks to these wonderful people.

Thank-yous

We wouldn't be able to do this without you, our community.

Today I want to send gratitude especially to:

  • Lizette, whom many of you know. Lizette has been helping us with layout ideas, building tables, sourcing a sink and clay traps, and much more. She's a wealth of knowledge and generous with her expertise. I'm grateful for her friendship and support. Thank you.
  • Jay, my friend who is on his way to becoming a licensed general contractor. He's been so helpful in figuring out what's needed to make the space usable and safe, and finding our specialists like a master electrician. Like me, he's a former techie who's shifted his focus to more creative pursuits. Reach out if you'd like some help with a DIY project or home renovation.
  • Susie, another friend who's been helping us with handyperson work. I worry when she's all the way up on the extension ladder, but I'm grateful she's willing to take on the scary jobs. I always know I can count on her to do any job thoroughly and well. She's an absolute gem.

The world is hard. Let's make art. ❤️

Hi folks. What a month. I've been at the studio seven days a week most weeks, and our handypeople have helped us make so much progress. We've gotten our large kiln moved over, and have assembled our wheels. Most of our private studios have occupants now, and we're starting to build a wonderful artist community. We'll be opening so soon. I can't wait to invite you into the space to make art together, as a community. More updates below. Space updates We have another bathroomThanks to our...

Hello friends! We've had a bunch of contractors at the studio this week, and we're just about ready for our next work party. I'm thankful that so many of you are excited to help out! Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 1, 11am – 3pm. We'll be doing a handful of miscellaneous jobs and maybe starting to put our wheels and stools together. So exciting! Please RSVP, even if you're a "maybe." It helps us plan and coordinate. Hope to see you there! Janet & Chip The world is hard. Let's make...

Hello folks. Can you believe it’s only been a month since we got our keys? From where I sit, it feels like it’s taking forever. But in reality everything's coming together at an impressive pace. Thanks to my friend and fellow artist Stephanie for that reminder. My aunt (hi Sue!) tells me it feels like a barn-raising, with the entire community coming together to build something wonderful. You are all an important part of why it's coming together so quickly and well. Read on for an artist...
