[Bay Haven] This is a barn-raising

Hello folks.

Can you believe it’s only been a month since we got our keys? From where I sit, it feels like it’s taking forever. But in reality everything's coming together at an impressive pace. Thanks to my friend and fellow artist Stephanie for that reminder.

My aunt (hi Sue!) tells me it feels like a barn-raising, with the entire community coming together to build something wonderful. You are all an important part of why it's coming together so quickly and well.

Read on for an artist spotlight and progress updates.

Stay centered, friends.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Welcome, Paolo Ertreo

Paolo's work explores texture, negative space, and movement.

He's also our first studio renter, and you can thank him for the idea to prioritize washing the skylights. His social media presence is coming soon. In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful artwork.

Progress update

The last week or so has been all about specialized workers coming by the studio. I promise you we'll do another fun work party soon. In the meantime, some updates:

Wheels are here!

As I type this, a friendly delivery person named Steve is driving away in his truck. He's leaving behind our wheels and stools! This is a huge milestone for our new studio.

Tables are in progress

Nat & Gene have been rockin' and rollin' on these tables. We'll be pouring the HydroStone for the wedging tables soon, and I've ordered canvas to wrap the handbuilding tables.

Electrical is coming along

A big part of any pottery studio is making sure the electrical work is thorough and safe. Our contractor Jay connected us with Rick Brown Electrical, and I am incredibly grateful. Rick is a Master Electrician. He and his team are efficient and really know what they're doing. Please reach out if you have electrical needs.

We have a clean roof

Thanks to Paolo (above) for helping us prioritize washing the roof. I didn't realize how grimy it was until we had folks come and power wash it. Thanks to Ducks Solutions for handling that, and thanks to Susie, our handyperson, for fixing the roof vent before they came. Check out the second pic to see the difference.

Progress on wet room

Jay led the charge on knocking down a wall so we can all access our sink area better. Thanks to the whole team who showed up that day to make short work of this job.

Hands shaping clay on a pottery wheel

Dear friends, It's been an interesting few months it's been as we prepare to open Bay Haven to the public. The space is looking amazing, we've learned a lot, and our Founding Members have been instrumental in shaping the space and helping us figure out how to best serve our community. We will schedule our grand opening and first class sessions soon. Dear friends, Last week, we welcomed founding members into the studio to choose their shelves, pick up their first bags of clay, and start making art in the space. We're relying on this small cohort to play-test our space and give us lots of feedback as we continue to prep for our official opening. We're still a ways away from opening to the public, but thanks to this crew we're starting to get a good sense of what's working, what's not, and what we're missing. Photos from the last week Not...

Hi folks. What a month. I've been at the studio seven days a week most weeks, and our handypeople have helped us make so much progress. We've gotten our large kiln moved over, and have assembled our wheels. Most of our private studios have occupants now, and we're starting to build a wonderful artist community. We'll be opening so soon. I can't wait to invite you into the space to make art together, as a community. More updates below. Space updates We have another bathroomThanks to our...
