We got keys! Work parties next week.

Welcome everyone!

We are so thankful that you've shown interest in our new pottery studio in Alameda. Check it out — we got the keys!

We are at 768 Stewart Ct, in Alameda. It's a former plumbing company. The space is huge, with six offices in the front (private studios...?) and a large warehouse space in the back that will be perfect for classes. There's even a little annex for our kiln room.

The location is excellent — off the beaten path, tucked away on a side street covered in gorgeous blackberry vines for summer snacking. We even have our own little entrance to Jean Sweeney Open Space. And the cyclists among you will love the bike path that goes right to our door.

Work parties coming soon

There's lots of work to be done before we open to the public. If you're interested in joining an upcoming work party over the holidays, we're planning a few already:

  • Tuesday, December 23rd, noon-4pm
  • Sunday, December 27th, noon-4pm

Bring whatever tools you have. Drills, saws, hammers, whatever. Also, apparently nail pullers are a thing?!

We can't pay you in $$ (yet), but I'll make some food to keep us going! If you want to help out but aren't able to join these, fear not. We'll have oodles of opportunities over the next few weeks.

Want to come but need childcare? No problem! My daughter (Claire, age 17) has worked with little kids for years, is CPR-certified, and wants to help out. Your little ones are gonna love her.

Please respond to this email if you think you might join us, so I know how much food to make.

We appreciate all of you. Happy and warm holidays!

Hands shaping clay on a pottery wheel

Dear friends, It's been an interesting few months it's been as we prepare to open Bay Haven to the public. The space is looking amazing, we've learned a lot, and our Founding Members have been instrumental in shaping the space and helping us figure out how to best serve our community. We will schedule our grand opening and first class sessions soon. In the meantime, read on for: Gauging interest in teen summer camps at the studio Information on firing services Info on small group...

Dear friends, Last week, we welcomed founding members into the studio to choose their shelves, pick up their first bags of clay, and start making art in the space. We're relying on this small cohort to play-test our space and give us lots of feedback as we continue to prep for our official opening. We're still a ways away from opening to the public, but thanks to this crew we're starting to get a good sense of what's working, what's not, and what we're missing. Photos from the last week Not...

Hi folks. What a month. I've been at the studio seven days a week most weeks, and our handypeople have helped us make so much progress. We've gotten our large kiln moved over, and have assembled our wheels. Most of our private studios have occupants now, and we're starting to build a wonderful artist community. We'll be opening so soon. I can't wait to invite you into the space to make art together, as a community. More updates below. Space updates We have another bathroomThanks to our...
